Situation on market. Topical data published by the Ministry of Economic Development indicates: Russia's machine tool production has been demonstrating growth since 2010. After the end of the crises all the three main directions of the sector - metal-cutting (12.3% growth in 2010 in comparison with 2009), woodworking (81.5%) and forge-and-pressing (38.4%) - suggest some optimism. Heightening needs of the national economy stimulate metal production as well. In 2010 Russia's indicator of ferrous metal rolling increased by 10.1% in comparison with 2009. Exports of machinery and equipment expanded up to $21,5 billion. St. Petersburg recent achievements follow the same growth pattern: the 2010 index of industrial production in the metal industry sector showed steady increase as well. The North-Western Federal District with its centre in St. Petersburg, is considered as a strategically important one, because of its ports and close location to Europe, which gives a perfect basis to launch or expand successful business in Russia.
