St. Petersburg Technical Fair represents a range of jointly held specialised research and production exhibitions and congress and business events. The Fair demonstrates the latest achievements of the Russian research and production development and provides an excellent opportunity to hold meetings and negotiations, exchange of experience in the domains of production and innovations.

Annually, Fair turns into a meeting place for Russian and foreign producers, suppliers and consumers representing different industries. In 2010, the Fair exposition featured over 500 companies from Russia and foreign countries, such as Belarus, Poland, Germany, France, China, Slovakia, Ukraine, Finland, Czech Republic, Switzerland, etc. the Fair is expected to be visited by over 8000 Russian and foreign  trade visitors, traditionally top managers and decision-makers.

Alongside the Fair “St. Petersburg Partneriat – Russian Regions and Foreign Countries. Small and Medium Business Interregional and International Cooperation” takes place. With the help of Partneriat meetings and presentations schedule industry experts have an opportunity to set direct contacts with Russian and foreign delegates.

St. Petersburg Technical Fair, the leading exhibition and congress event in Russia specialised in metallurgy, metalworking and industrial innovations, took place on March 10-12, 2010.

This year over 500 companies from Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Germany, Finland, Switzerland, France, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Poland participated in exhibition, congress and business programmes of the Fair. 7,500 Russian and foreign experts working from various spheres and representatives of scientific enterprises visited the three-day open exposition.

The Fair opened with St. Petersburg Industrial Congress panel discussion Modernisation and innovations. Parallel or consequent way moderated by Vice-Governor Mikhail Osseevsky.Valentina Matvienko, Governor of St. Petersburg welcomed participants and guests and reminded them of a conventional wisdom, i.e. no pain, no gain, appealing for manufacturers to find out how to modernise the industry in order to achieve effective results in those post-crisis period.

Sergey Aleksashenko, macroeconomic research director from State University Higher School of Economics, Gennadiy Lokotkov, President of Russian Power Engineering Holding CJSC, Vitaliy Lopota, President of OAO S.P. Korolev Rocket and Space Corporation Energia, Rustam Tariko, CEO of the Russian Standard Holding made their reports and leaded the following discussion of the topic. Interactive express-polls during the session gave some answers to the most burning issues of the Russian industry. 81% of respondents favoured the parallel way of modernisation and innovation. According to moderator proponents of this method outnumbered the opponents, who believe modernisation should precede innovation, by four times.

Topical expositions showcased the full range of industrial products, from initial materials to ready-made products of metallurgic and metalworking industries. Metallurgy. Foundry, Metalworking, Mechanical Engineering, Modern Industrial Enterprise attracted the biggest Russian and foreign enterprises, such as  Georgsmarienhütte Holding gmbh (Germany), Irlen-Engineering (St. Petersburg), Hermle (Switzerland), Borovichsky Kombinat Ogneuporov / Borovichsky Firebricks Plant (Novgorodskaya Oblast), Mariupol Heavy Machinery Plant (Ukraine), Sevzappromenergo (St. Petersburg), Arsenal (St. Petersburg), TD Motivilikhinsky Zavody / Motivilikhinsky Plants (Perm), Medved (St. Petersburg), Russian Power Engineering Holding (St. Petersburg), United Industrial Corporation (Moscow).

Special exposition of St. Petersburg Industry presented 26 enterprises of the city with their R&D projects and those of the development of strategically important city districts. The 16th International Exhibition and Congress High Technologies. Innovations. Investments. featured  R&D organisations, institutes, the Khabarovsk Territory, the Novgorod and the Chelyabinsk Regions. The Republic of Belarus represented 29 enterprises from the Ministry of Industry and 18 from the Ministry of Education.

This year the congress program events were devoted to discussions of the ways of innovative development, energy and resources conservation at enterprises, industrial safety, etc. Over 1,300 experts took part at conferences, seminars, round-table meetings, presentations. The Assembly of leading power engineers of industrial enterprises and the Assembly of leading engineers of industrial enterprises were aimed to further development of industrial policy and introduction of technologies’ effective use.

Round-table meeting Investment climate and competitiveness raising, International cooperation. Practical aspects. and the 3rd annual conference Nanotechnology and Nanomaterials has become indispensable from the Fair, attracted a great number of experts. The current issues and prospects of the industry were also discussed at Safety at industrial enterprises. Technical supervision and certification; Labor efficiency. Advanced technologies of corporate management; Robotics – glance into the Future The labor market of St. Petersburg: Challenges and Perspectives; Industrial policy of St. Petersburg – new look.

The second day 11 March St. Petersburg Technical Fair featured Young Expert Day which provides students from technical schools with information about a modern manufacturing process, expanding their horizons and background in their major. More than 500 students from St. Petersburg leading technical universities attended the Fair events.

The winners of the professional contests The Best Innovation Project and The Best Hi-Tech Technology of the Year were awarded on 12 March. The contest was launched back in 1998 by the Minister of Technology and Science in Russia. In 2010 it was organised by Republican Research Scientific Advisory Center Expertise, International Strategic Innovation and Technology Alliance and RESTEC® and submitted 208 applications from 99 companies from Russian and Belarus. Grand Prix was gained by St. Petersburg State Electrotechnical University "LETI" for the portable digital x-ray diagnostic apparatus for stomatology and oral and maxillofacial surgery.

The best innovation project in the living system technologies was that by Bioengineering Center of Russian Academy of Sciences. I.V. Tananaev Institute of Chemistry and Rare-elements Technology and Mineral Raw Materials of Kolsky Scientific Center of Russian Academy of Sciences was the best in mechanical engineering and metallurgy Hi-Tech. The Far-Eastern State University turned out to be the best in the sphere of energy-efficient technologies; and R&D Center of Applied Technologies was the first in the nanomaterials and nanotechnologies sphere. Brest State Technical University took a special prize for modern hi-tech devices and research-based technologies. Moreover, the expert panel highly praised a new project of Institute of Chemistry of High-Purity Substances of the Russian Academy of Sciences and thanked it for a significant contribution to developing a silicon valley in Russia. On the whole there were 42 commemorative diplomas, 80 second-place awards, 80 first-place awards, 5 special prizes and 1 Grand-Prix.

Partneriat – Russian Regions and Foreign Countries. Small and Medium Business Interregional and International Cooperation as a matchmaking centre for establishing and developing of partnerships in the industry welcomed 1117 experts from 58 Russian regions and 26 official delegations at 710 on-on-one meetings.

Despite the turmoil caused by the crisis, St. Petersburg Technical Fair gave its participants a comprehensive overview of the current situation and development projects in the Russian industry and sciences; it created the opportunity to establish and strengthen partnership between Russian and foreign enterprises and to develop investment projects.

The 5th edition of St. Petersburg Technical Fair, the Russian leading Exhibition and Congress Event dedicated to metallurgy, mechanical engineering, metalworking and industrial innovations, is to be held on March 10–12, 2010.

St. Petersburg Technical Fair represents a range of jointly held specialised research and production exhibitions and congress and business events. The Fair demonstrates the latest achievements of the Russian research and production development and provides an excellent opportunity to hold meetings and negotiations, exchange of experience in the domains of production and innovations.

Complexity is the main innovative feature of the event. The Fair format is based on the integrated approach to technological chain and cooperation with the industry various spheres: metal extraction – refining – metalworking – elements of mechanical engineering (automotive industry being emphasized) – management structure of an industrial enterprises, industrial innovations.

During its history since 2005 St. Petersburg Technical Fair has proved itself as the most dynamically growing industry project in the North-West of Russia and become one of the central events of industry. The Fair is a synergistic event where exhibitors of an event are at the same time target visitors of another.

St. Petersburg Technical Fair was held on March 10-13, 2009 in Lenexpo Fairgrounds, St. Petersburg. The events of the Technical Fair were visited by 8 300 experts. About 400 industrial companies from Russia and 22 other countries including companies of the national expositions from India, China and Czech Republic presented their products in the territory of over 13 000 sq.m.

The plenary session Innovations and Industry. Conditions for Development, which has launched the Technical Fair, was participated by the representatives of the governmental authorities, heads of Russian regions' representatives and government agencies as well as high technologies and industrial innovations experts. Yuri Sentyurin, Deputy Minister of Education and Science of the Russian Federation addressed the participants of the Fair with a welcome speech. Valentina Matvienko, Governor of St Petersburg welcomed the participants emphasizing the great scale of the event and its unique format, quote 'The Technical Fair we are launching today is surely great. Such a scale of technical achievement has never been presented'. Moreover, the Fair has also been participated by Valeriy Chereshnev, chairman of the State Duma Committee of the Russian Federation, Dionis Gordin, investment managing director of Public Corporation ROSNANOTECH, Sergei Vasiliev, deputy chairman of Vnesheconombank and others.

For the whole period of the Fair there were presented international industry exhibitions on different directions, such as metallurgy, engineering, metalworking, automobile industry, an enterprise infrastructure and industrial innovations.

The novelty of the Fair 2009 was BLECH Russia 2009 – a jointly held first and only in Russia exhibition devoted to equipment and technologies of metal sheet working. Over 160 European producers from 17 countries around the world, including 6 companies from St. Petersburg and 19 companies from other Russian regions presented their products at the exhibition. The leading industry producers have exhibited a full range of equipment and technologies covering all the key sectors of the sheet metal working industry. Semi-finished products and sheet metal finished goods as well as tools and machines for every kind of work with sheet metal were exhibited for the industry experts. Among the exhibition participants there were: the industry leaders - SCHULER, Galica, Invernizzi, Neff, TAMA, OOO AMADA, ROBUR International, CSoft, Abamet Advanced Machinery and others. During the work of the exhibition the participating companies have made 20 presentations.

Over 120 enterprises in the territory of 1000 sq. m. presented their novelties of engineering and technologies as well as advanced materials and equipment at the 15th International Exhibition Congress High-Technologies. Innovations. Investments. For the first time the Exhibition 2009 was participated by foreign partners from Poland and Germany. The most popular exhibition was a retrospective exposition devoted to the anniversary of the first in Russia International Exhibition of Inventions. There were photos of exhibits and some kinds of products which St. Petersburg companies participating in the first exhibition of the industry had presented. Among the participants of the Exhibition of 1909 there were: Admiralteyskiye Izhorskie Zavodi (today – OMZ "Izhorskie Zavodi"), Y. M. Ayvaza Plant (today – Svetlana JSC), Mechanics, Optics and Horology Department at the Prince Nicholas Vocational School (today - Saint Petersburg State University of Information Technologies, Mechanics and Optics) and A. N. Shaposhnikov Factory (today – ZAO Nevo-Tabacco). The participants of the Fair were also very interested in the central booth of the exhibition Innovation Technologies for Municipal Services where 16 enterprises including the Association of Electrical Manufacturers Soyuz-Energo, Investigation Development manufacture Bourevestnik, Holding Company PIGMENT, Vector, Electron and some others presented their products.

Innovation Industrial Forum 2009 under the motto 'Institutions, Investments, Infrastructure, Innovations and Intelligence as the basis of the national competitive ability of Russia' took the central place in the business program of the St. Petersburg Technical Fair. The Forum featured conferences, seminars, round table meetings and presentations participated by 2 770 experts.

Mikhail Richev, first deputy director Russian Science Center Kurcgatov Institute spoke about the Russian Federal Program Research and Development the Science and Technology Complex Priority Development Drections for 2007 – 2012 at the conference Nanotechnologies and Nanomaterials. The total cost of the program for 6 years amounts to 132, 83 bln. rubles with 60% devoted to nanotechnology industry development, as Mr. Richev said.

Problems of metalworking and production were also discussed at the conference Sheet Metal Working and Production held in two sections: Advanced Technologies and Equipment for Sheet Metal Working and Production and Sheet metal for automotive industry: current condition of production, challenges, prospects. The participants of the conference have discussed new technologies of hot and cold sheet metal rolling for automobile industry, innovation production of flat steel for oil and gas extraction and transporting in Arctic field, laser technologies and equipment for sheet metal working and many others.

Russian and foreign experts have actively discussed the current problems at the round table meetings, such as Human resources management in innovation enterprises in the context of unstable economic conditions, Active support of small and medium enterprises, Efficient enterprise management in the context of crisis, Problems of foundry production of components for automobile industry in St. Petersburg and Russia in the present economic conditions. Infrastructure, technologies, equipment, materials. Search for efficient forms of cooperation under the changing economic conditions, Successful subcontracting examples as well as Russian and Finnish round table meeting devoted to the issues of subcontracting for metalworking and engineering industries.

Following the traditions, the contest The Best Innovation Project and The Best Hi-Tech Technology of the Year was held. Experts from Federal State Institution Research and Development Institution RINKCE examined the contest. 166 applications were sold for the contest. According to the results of the contest, on the last day of the Fair there were awarded 74 Gold Medals, 75 Silver Medals, 11 Diplomas, 4 special prices and Grand Prix. The majority of the awards – 16 Gold Medals, 27 Silver Medals and 7 Diplomas - were presented to the participants of the exposition of the Khabarovsk Region Ministry for Economic Development. The Grand Prix in the category of The Best Innovation Project in the Field of Nanomaterials and Nanotechnologies was taken to Moscow by the representatives of Research and Development Center of surface properties and vacuum study. Special prices were awarded to Central Research and Development Institution of Materials (St. Petersburg), The Establishment of the Russian Academy of Sciences Geological Institute of Kola Science Center (Apatity), ïïï Zvezda-7 (Khabarovsk), P. A. Soloviev State Aviation Technology Academy (Ribinsk).

On the 12th of March St. Petersburg Technical Fair featured the Day of Young Expert. The Fair was visited by 500 students of the leading technical institutions of St. Petersburg, including: St. Petersburg POlytechnical college, the North-Western State Correspondence Technical University, St. Petersburg College Stankoelectron and many others. Students studing the course of Metallurgy and Metal Heat-Treating and Mechanical Engineering had an opportunity to see the equipment for metalworking, iron and steel industry and engineering.

On 10-12 March, the Partneriat: St.Petersburg - Regions of Russia. Lines of Cooperation. was held jointly with Fair. For its three days over 1500 people from 58 Russian regions participated in it. Within the framework of the Business Contact Exchange there were held 850 business meetings and 22 negotiations between large enterprises and potential partners. 26 companies have made up 12 collective expositions as a part of the regional exposition St. Petersburg – Regions of Russia.

There were held meetings among the representatives of profit and non-profit organizations and Mikhail Oseevsky, vice governor of St. Petersburg, Igor Ilyuhin and Dmitriy Bikov, deputy chairman of Committee of economic development, industrial policy and trade and others. Such companies as OAO Zvezda, State Transport Agency St. Petersburg Metro, ïïï Modern House Building Works, ïïï Lenpolygrafmash, LOMO PLC, Trading Company Machiny Kirovskogo Zavoda, ïáï Rustrubprom, Federal state Unitary Enterprise Gosmetr, Nonprofit Partnership Foundrymen Union of Saint-Petersburg, ïïï Valve Corporation, St. Petersburg Association of Automobile Components Producers, Engineering Club and some others have worked the most actively.

All the events of St. Petersburg Technical fair were organised by the group of companies RESTECæ with the support of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, Government of St. Petersburg, St. Petersburg Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, Russian Association of Founders, Saint-Petersburg Chamber of Commerce and Industry and under the auspice of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

St. Petersburg Technical Fair, the leading industrial event of the North-West of Russia, will open its doors on 10-13 March, 2009.

The exposition features metallurgy, metalworking, engineering, automotive industry, industrial enterprises' infrastructure, industrial innovations industries, alongside the special business program including Matchmaking Center, The Best Innovation Project and the Best Hi-Tech Technology of the Year Contest, Career Fair, Young Expert Day, Hi-Tech Exhibition and Congress, Industrial and Innovation Forum and Partneriat: St.Petersburg - Russian Regions.

The St. Petersburg Technical Fair exposition area in 2009 amounts to over 13 000 square meters where over 400 enterprises from Russia and other countries will demonstrate its products, services and technologies.

St. Petersburg Technical Fair is a multi-field event that annually gathers professionals of the engineering and metallurgic branch from Russia, CIS, Europe and Asia in St. Petersburg. The format of the event formed for today is unique as it showcases the full range of production from raw materials to finished metallurgy and machinery products from the worldwide manufacturers and suppliers.

National expositions from Germany, India, Czech Republic will be presented within the framework of exhibition in 2009. Companies from Czech Republic, Slovakia and Finland are considered to be regular partners and participants of the exhibition, unlike those from Turkey who have just decided to take part in a collective exposition. Indian companies plan to present a larger exposition than the one they have made in 2008, and occupy an individual pavilion to exhibit the industrial products of Indian Republic is already the Fairs` tradition.

Promoting industrial innovations is considered to be one of the main features of St. Petersburg Technical Fair. Innovations are not only advanced research developments, innovations shall be implied in mass production. In the same time, every enterprise shall meet a strategic goal to update its facilities and product lines constantly. That is why science and industry are able and shall forth function as a sole mechanism. The Congress and Exhibition: High Technologies. Innovations. Investments. is devoted to the issue of adopting innovations in industries. The aim of the Congress and Exhibition is to contribute to development of knowledge-intensive production, generate innovation activity and introduce perspective developments to production. The Congress and Exhibition 2009 will be coincided with centennial anniversary of the first Russian exhibition of advanced inventions.

The first ever BLECH Russia is going to be held jointly with the Fair; it is the first and only exhibition in Russia devoted to equipment and technologies for sheet metalworking. Sheet metal production and treatment has a huge impact for automotive, shipbuilding and aerospace industries as well as for building and engineering sectors. There is no doubt that the BLECH Russia'09 will become an important event for all the enterprises engaged in sheet metal producing and working as a meeting point of international and Russian professionals.

Another event to be held within St. Petersburg Technical Fair is AVTOPROM / ICTA. The Exhibition features automotive components production from fit stock, equipment, technologies and engineering innovations to finished goods for automobile and tractor producers. Special interest to the event is caused by rapid development of automotive industry in St. Petersburg: over the recent years 6 biggest world-known producers have established their manufactures there.

The most important integral part of St. Petersburg Technical Fair is the Industrial and Innovation Forum with its motto: Institutions, Investments, Infrastructure, Innovations, Intelligence as the basis of competitive ability of Russia. This motto reflects the tasks and objectives faced by Russian economy and industry in the best possible way. The entire complex of the Forum is devoted to the centennial anniversary of the first Russian exhibition of advanced inventions, twenty years' anniversary of innovative activities in Russia and fifteen years' anniversary of the Foundation for Assistance to Small Innovative Enterprises (FASIE). A basis conference: Century of Russian Technology and Industrial Development, St. Petersburg Industrial Congress and Industrial and Innovation Congress will be held within the Forum.
